Distinguishing Goals from Student Learning Outcomes: Key Differences Explained

 In this fast-paced world, numerous learner-centric eLearning courses have been developed to create skillful students which involves drafting the course objective to the final knowledge assessment. In this regard, two common terms are frequently used “Learning Objectives” and “Learning Outcomes” and both are the most significant part of any course or educational program.  Learning objectives describe the intention of the candidates what they wish to learn while Learning outcomes state what skill the participants have learned during the course period by the end of the year.

Differentiating Learning Objectives and Learning Outcomes

As we all know Learning objectives and Learning outcomes are the two crucial elements of any course and are used interchangeably. But they convey different messages what we are going to discuss in this post.  

Learning Objecticves

The learning objectives refer to the instructor's purpose for creating skillful students by teaching their course and craft perfectly to enhance student’s knowledge. It refers to performing  a certain task to achieve the goal while instructors focuses on to raise their knowledge. It is specific and  measurable knowledge that the participant will gain during the entire course period.


The learning objectives are designed well enabling learners to easily grab the subject matter what they are expecting from the course.

Learning Outcomes

On the other hand, Learning Outcomes are the skill or knowledge  that the learners gain by the end of the course program.  Instructors and teaches focuses on the student learning outcomes to enhance their knowledge and improve the effectiveness of the specific course.


The learning Outcomes can de crafted in such a  manner that directly convey to the learner enhancing their skill and reflects what they have achieved by the end of the course duration.
